Delivering Excellence In Healthcare

Ear Wax Removal

Saint Martha's provide experienced and fully qualified ear wax removal specialists to offer completely personalised care.

Microsuction

Microsuction

Microsuction

Microsuction is a very popular method of wax removal as it does not require water to remove the wax.

Our ear wax specialist is able to view your ear canal with the aid of a microscope to confirm that there is earwax present and to pinpoint exactly where the wax build up is located.  A fine tube is then connected to a suction machine to carefully remove the wax.

This method is preferential for patients who have suffered problems with their ears previously, such as ear drum perforation.

Irrigation

The irrigation method of wax removal involves gently flushing warm sterile water through the ear canal using specialist ear irrigation equipment.

This is done following a thorough examination of the ear to determine which method of removal is best suited when considering the position, type and density of the wax build up.

The irrigation solution is warmed to body temperature and then gently streamed into the ear canal.  It is sometimes necessary to repeat the procedure.  After the wax has been removed, the ear canal is dried.

This method is preferential for patients who have suffered problems with their ears previously, such as tinnitus.

How to prepare for ear wax removal.

Prior to your appointment, we advise you to help soften the wax by putting ear drops or olive oil into your ears.

We recommend Earol olive oil spray, which is a simple and effective way to soften ear wax at home.  Its unique spray bottle makes it easy to use and reduces the chances of any spillages.
